Let’s start at the beginning. In April, 2018, we attended BlogPaws. BlogPaws was an event that brought together pet influencers and pet companies. The goal was to learn, to connect and to start relationships with like-minded people and companies.

DSC_0064.jpg

In one of the educational classes, we were blessed to have Anna-Liisa, of Nutrolin, sit down next to us. Back then, we had our small stroller, and the pups basically had to lay on top of each other to sleep. (They found the educational classes quite boring!)

DSC_0435.jpg

Anna-Liisa offered to hold one of the pups, to give the others more room. Guess who volunteered?!? Bruiser, of course! And, he wasted no time making himself quite comfortable!

DSC_0653.jpg

Thanks to Bruiser, we got to talking and learned that Anna-Liisa was from Finland, and, along with her husband, owned a fatty acid supplement company, Nutrolin...inspired by their own little white pup, Penni! Their goal is to make a difference in pet’s lives, to use their scientific knowledge to create quality, human grade products that help our pets stay healthy and live long, active lives!

BlogPaws took place in Kansas City, but as fate would have it, before leaving the US, Anna-Liisa and her husband were going to making a visit to Phoenix…right as we were also getting back home. Making it perfect for getting to connect with them over a delicious dinner...with more pup snuggling, of course!

At the time, Nutrolin wasn’t selling their products to US or Canadian customers, but Anna-Liisa graciously sent us a care package, and we immediately incorporated their oils into our meal times.

DSC_0040.jpg

One of the things we had discussed with Anna-Liisa was that, at the time, Benji had the flakiest skin! He looked like he had dandruff! She highly recommended giving him Nutrolin Skin & Coat. What a difference it made! I can’t remember how long it took, but the flakes went away, and he hasn’t had dry, dandruff-y skin since then!

Ever since, we have stayed in contact with Anna-Liisa. When we run low, she sends us another care package!

We were so excited to hear from her that Nutrolin now has the ability to sell and ship to the United States and Canada! Which means we can now share our love of Nutrolin with all of you!!

We were able to chat with Anna-Liisa and ask questions that we thought might be beneficial for learning more about Nutrolin’s products:

What is Nutrolin?

  • Oils / Fatty Acid / Omega-3 Supplements for Dogs, but Nutrolin products are more than just oils and omegas: we have added other nutrients, too, for synergistic efficacy!
  • 100% natural. Food, human and medical grade products.

How do Nutrolin oils differ from regular fish oils?

  • We have one oil product that does not contain any fish oil at all: the patented Nutrolin Skin & Coat
  • We have four products for dogs that contain fish oil plus other ingredients; these other ingredients support the effect of fish oil omega-3s; we call these products nutritional oils
    • You can think of these products as nutritionally enhanced fish oils
    • Fish oil provides a high level of omega-3-fatty acids in the blend
    • The other nutrients we add to the blend enhance the effects of omega-3-fatty acids in the body; they are antioxidants such as vitamin-E, Q10 (ubiquinol) and beta-carotene
    • We also add a small, but critical amount of plant oil to stabilize the omega-3-fatty acids against oxidation
      • Omega-3-fatty acids are extremely sensitive to the effects of oxygen in the air; small amounts of oxygen can induce oxidation (rancidity) in the oil; we’ve done research to show that adding natural antioxidants (rosemary and tocopherol extract) mixed with certain plant oil into fish oil can effectively protect omega-3-fatty acids during storage and use; no other fish oil product in the market can present such strong stability data
      • Stability is important because rancid oils are extremely harmful to dogs. Researchers found in 2003 that oxidized lipids depress immune function, growth and bone formation of dogs.
  • Nutrolin Hip & Joint is a unique product that combines a high dose of fish oil omega-3 fatty acids with nutrients (medical grade glucosamine and chondroitin) that reduce inflammation and support mobility of joints in dogs that have arthritis

Where are Nutrolin oils sourced?

  • All the Nutrolin products (except Nutrolin Skin & Coat) are made of sustainably sourced, Friend of the Sea certified fish oils. The oils are made of several different deep-sea fish species. This guarantees high and standardized omega-3 EPA & DHA levels. The Icelandic company Lysi manufactures the fish oil for Nutrolin. The oil is purified and contains no mercury, dioxins, PCB’s, microplastics etc. The same fish oil is even used in children’s products!
  • Nutrolin Skin & Coat is made of Nordic plant oils: hemp seed oil of unique origin + canola and linseed oils for a high content of essential fatty acids. Fatty acids are among the most important molecules present in nature. They are the building blocks of the body, as all organs are surrounded by a membrane of fatty acids. Since all transport of nutrients into a cell must pass through the cell membrane, it is important that the cell membrane if properly functioning! Be sure to visit the Nutrolin website to learn more about the benefits of the key omega fatty acids found in Nutrolin oils oils.

What benefits could we see by adding Nutrolin oil to our dogs’ daily diet?

  • Depending on which Nutrolin product you are using:
    • You can see benefits such as smarter and more trainable puppies.
    • Dogs whose skin becomes healthier, who shed less and grow a more beautiful coat, and never need paw balms again.
    • You could see your limping, arthritic dog start to get up more easily, run the stairs again and become more active outdoors.
    • You can see your aging dog become more playful, move with more ease and keep up his or her problem-solving skills; supporting the heart and kidney health may also be of great benefit to many older dogs.
    • If you have a sports dog, (agility, herding, hunting, obedience, racing, hiking etc.) you can see them recover faster and have them quickly ready for their next run or competition.

At what age should I start giving my dog Nutrolin oil?

  • You should start to give your puppy Nutrolin Puppy & Mom the day you adopt him or her. For optimally smart and trainable puppies, the mom dog should also get Nutrolin Puppy & Mom throughout her pregnancy and nursing. Human studies show that fish oil may also protect the baby (puppy) from having atopy as an adult.
    • We recommend you give Nutrolin Puppy & Mom to your puppy until he or she is 8 to 12 months. After this, most dogs benefit from a fatty acid that supports the wellbeing of the skin and coat (meaning less shedding and scratching, too) so that would be Nutrolin Skin & Coat.
  • If you adopt an adult dog you can start giving her or him one of the Nutrolin products when the dog moves to your home.

Can I give more than one Nutrolin oil to my dog?

  • Yes, you can. But, there is no need to give two of the fish oil Nutrolins, just pick the one that fits your dog’s age or other needs the best.
  • However, if your dog needs support for the skin, coat or paws, too, we recommend you give Nutrolin Skin & Coat with one meal and one of the other Nutrolins with the other meal. This way your dog gets full benefit from both.

Now, let’s talk about the Pack, and their unique needs:

Pebbles is 14 years old, and has a grade 2/3 heart murmur, but, she still gets out and hikes and is a spunky, sassy gal! What Nutrolin oil would you recommend for her?

  • We would recommend Nutrolin Senior for Pebbles, the gal that looks half her age! The high omega-3 content together with Q10 (ubiquinol) will protect her heart, brain, joints and kidneys.
  • Aging causes a condition called low-grade inflammation throughout the body, and Nutrolin Senior is a powerful protector.
DSC_0332.jpg
  • Here’s a fun fact: the professor who developed the Nutrolin products takes this oil every morning, and I, his wife, Anna-Liisa take Nutrolin Hip & Joint. I want to be able to dance until I’m 100 years old.

Benji is our slow, senior dude, almost 12 years old! His rear end and back leg muscles are his weakest. But, he gets in daily walks and is good about stretching! What Nutrolin oil would you recommend for him?

  • We would recommend Nutrolin Hip & Joint to support Benji’s mobility. The produt combines a high dose of fish oil omega-3 fatty acids with nutrients (medical grade glucosamine and chondroitin) that reduce inflammation and support mobility. This product contains plenty of omega-3s so it is good for Benji’s heart and brain, too.

Bruiser is almost 10 years old, but he acts like a young guy! He loves being active, but he also loves to sunbathe! He loves playing with his brother, and moves very smoothly…great backend awareness! He does dock diving in the summer months, and stays active with hiking all year round. What Nutrolin oil would you recommend for him?

  • For this handsome guy, we would recommend Nutrolin Skin & Coat to keep him looking and feeling healthy also during those summer months when he swims a lot.
  • Note: you can switch from Nutrolin Skin & Coat to Nutrolin Sport during the most active hiking season to support Bruiser’s faster recovery between adventures.

Jax is 3 years old, and is our speed demon, always going fast, jumping, leaping, rolling and having fun. Every adventure is an agility course or a playground! What Nutrolin oil would you recommend for him?

  • For this cute speed demon, we recommend Nutrolin Sport to protect him from micro-injuries and to help him recover faster after his sporty adventures.
  • If his skin, coat or paws need support, too, we recommend you give him Nutrolin Skin & Coat in the mornings and Nutrolin Sport in the evenings.

For your next puppy, whenever that may be, we recommend Nutrolin Puppy & Mom from Day One for maximum smartness.

And, one last tip for pet parents who have just one tiny dog:

  • A 265 ml (8.9 US Fluid Ounce) bottle of Nutrolin lasts 106 days for a 5 kg (11 pounds) dog.
  • The fish oil Nutrolins stay fresh in a fridge for 3 months.
  • Nutrolin Skin & Coat stays fresh in a fridge for 4-5 months, so even a small fur baby has time to finish the bottle in time.
  • But, if you don’t think you will finish the bottle in that amount of time, you can pour part of the oil in a small container and freeze it to be used later.
